Workshops

Art with Personal Relevance

Radha Lakshmi offers creative Mandalam art workshops to promote leadership, collaboration and teamwork within groups. Programs are tailored for business environments, teachers/students/schools, community programs in the Arts and not-profit groups. The offerings are often just segments to a larger agenda. Success is observed when these workshops are applied to enhance meetings. Think of it as a way to get more out of gatherings that have a wider organizational purpose like as planning, trouble shooting and creative development. It works because nothing connects the heart and mind faster than art.

I have 3 general categories of workshops. These are described below: Mandalam Workshops, Painted Prayer Flags and Yoga Mat Painting.

Mandala or Mandalam Workshops

The ephemeral creative art form 'Mandlam' is a combination of a mandala and kolam using stencils, materials like rice flour, sand, and petals of flowers. This creative process has beauty, essence, harmony, and energy. Creating ephemeral Mandalam's using symbols from nature, is delightful, beautiful, healing, therapeutic, relaxing, reflective, centering, educates and brings people together as we revisit that place of peace within.

Mandala comes from the Sanskrit language meaning circle, a container, filled with energy. Even though squares or triangles dominate it, a mandala has a concentric structure. The materials used in a mandala are colored sand, flowers, herbs, grains, colored stones. For the women of Tamil Nadu, India, sunrise heralds the creation of 'Kolam.' at the threshold of the home, office or Temple. A kolam is made up of geometric designs, dots, circles connected with curved lines using rice flour and stencils. The reason for using rice flour is that we are providing food for the ants & other small insects. Kolam patterns can be simple to very detailed. It can take 5 minutes to 3 hours to create one design. When we create a Mandalam, we are creating a personal symbol that reveals who we are at that moment. Mandalam art is one of the most creative, direct, and transformative ways to accomplish these important goals. No art experience required.

Yoga Mat Painting Workshops

Radha Lakshmi offers an afternoon of painting your yoga mats.

Radha Lakshmi has been practicing yoga for many years and painted on yoga mats since 2000, and “infuses sacredness” into the experience by painting Southern Indian ritual patterns called 'kolam' on yoga mats. She has created yoga mats commissioned by, and personally tailored to practitioners around the country. Radha invites you to take a workshop with her. Understand the healing power of Vastu designs, that you create, on your yoga mat. Look inwards and let go of negative energy as your design develops. Give this gift to yourself, or a loved one. Each yoga mat is printed and painted with nontoxic paints. These mats are extremely durable and easy to clean.

Radha will provide the guidance, paints, brushes, stencils, and other materials you need to create a meaningful, beautiful yoga mat. Manduka mats are required as Radha has discovered that they hold the paint best. You may bring your own Manduka pro mat or purchase one at manduka.com
